The Fort Lee Police Traffic Bureau handles the daily traffic, which is caused mostly by the George Washington Bridge. The George Washingtbikes_only02on Bridge is the world's busiest bridge. On an average day over 285,000 cars go over the bridge. The bridge is the gateway to the northeast and one of the biggest cities in the world, Manhattan.
At times when traffic is heavy, Fort Lee's local streets can be congested with cars, trucks and the like, making it almost impossible to navigate through town. The Traffic Division assists in keeping selected roadways open for emergency vehicles.
You'll see many of the Traffic Division Officers riding motorcycles, while responding to various posts and calls to ensure the safety of all residents. Unit members received extensive training in the area of traffic concerns. Some of the members are specialists in accident reconstruction and will investigate some of our more serious accidents.  You will also see the unit participating in community events with the town's youth or assisting in the organization of traffic routes for our parades.
